BCI · Focus 1
Connect the legacy Focus 1 on Mac.
Focus 1 uses its own Wi-Fi network and the legacy desktop BCI Connect 1.8 app—not the current Bluetooth browser connection.
NeuroMaker confirms Focus 1 for Windows 10 and macOS Big Sur. The linked vendor lessons do not explicitly confirm this exact Focus 1 + HAND 2.0 combination. This path combines the legacy Focus 1 setup with the HAND FAQ’s documented upload–unplug–reconnect serial-port pattern. Treat it as a legacy fallback and contact NeuroMaker support if the devices do not connect as shown.
Focus 1 + HAND 2.0
Complete these steps in order.
Step 1
Install BCI Connect 1.8 for Mac
Download the official legacy installer ZIP, open it, and install NeuroMaker BCI Connect 1.8. NeuroMaker’s published compatibility is macOS Big Sur; newer operating systems are not officially confirmed.
Step 2
Connect the Focus 1 over its Wi-Fi
Fully charge and turn on the Focus 1. Follow NeuroMaker BCI 101 to wear the hydrogel electrodes correctly, then join the headband’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network from the computer before opening BCI Connect.
Step 3
Upload the HAND control project
Put HAND 2.0 in CODE mode, connect it in mBlock, open the official brainwave-control project, and upload it. When the upload succeeds, unplug the HAND and close the mBlock connection so mBlock releases the serial port.
Step 4
Reconnect the HAND inside BCI Connect
Plug HAND 2.0 back in and turn it on. In BCI Connect, scan the serial ports and choose the port that belongs to the HAND. If the wrong port fails, compare the list before and after unplugging it.
Step 5
Test attention-driven movement
Confirm the headband data is changing, then test the introductory HAND project with the mechanism clear. Its sample threshold closes the hand above an attention value of 50 and opens it at 50 or below.
NeuroMaker BCI is educational equipment. It does not read thoughts and does not shock the wearer. Attention and meditation scores are algorithm outputs, not medical measurements; do not use them for diagnosis or research-quality conclusions.
